Etsy Image Compressor (under 1 MB)

Etsy recommends keeping listing images small so shops load quickly. Set a target — 1 MB, 500 KB, 256 KB — and this tool finds the highest JPEG quality that still fits, at full Etsy resolution.

Compressing without shrinking below Etsy's minimum

The usual advice — “resize the image smaller” — collides with Etsy's requirement that listing photos be at least 2000px on the shortest side. You need the opposite: keep the pixels, remove the bytes.

This tool re-encodes the image at progressively lower JPEG quality until it fits under your target size, using a binary search so it lands on the highest quality that still fits rather than overshooting. If even the lowest sensible quality is too large, it reduces dimensions in steps and reports the size it settled on instead of silently handing you an oversized file.

Worked example: a 4000 × 3000 phone photo around 4 MB typically compresses to roughly 300–600 KB at 80% quality with no visible change at normal viewing size — comfortably under 1 MB while still exceeding Etsy's 2000px minimum.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum file size for Etsy listing photos?

Etsy accepts files up to 10 MB per image, but recommends keeping them small for page speed. Under 1 MB is a safe working target that still supports zoom at 2000px.

Should I use JPG or PNG for Etsy?

JPG for photography — it compresses far better for the same perceived quality. PNG only when you need transparency or flat graphics with sharp edges.
