Etsy Listing Photo Size: 2000 × 2000

Etsy recommends 2000 × 2000 pixels for listing photos, and at least 2000px on the shortest side for zoom to work. Drop your product photos below to resize, pad and compress them to that exact size.

Why 2000 × 2000, and why padding matters

Etsy's zoom feature crops into your photo rather than displaying it large, so the file needs real resolution behind it: 2000 pixels on the shortest side is the practical floor. Below that, buyers who zoom in see a blurry product.

The second rule is less obvious. Etsy renders the first photo as a landscape thumbnail in search results. If your photo is square or portrait and tightly cropped, the thumbnail cuts off the top and bottom of the product. Padding the photo onto a 2000 × 2000 white canvas — instead of cropping it — keeps the whole item visible everywhere it appears.

This tool does both: it scales your photo so the longest side fills the frame, centers it, and fills the remaining space with a padding colour you choose (white by default, which blends into Etsy's grid). If you would rather fill the frame edge to edge, switch the mode to Crop and drag to choose which part survives.

Frequently asked questions

Is 2000×2000 required, or just recommended?

It is the recommended size rather than a hard rule, but 2000px is the practical minimum on the shortest side. Smaller images still upload — they just cannot support Etsy's zoom and look soft in large views.

Should I crop or pad to square?

Pad if the product must stay fully visible (jewellery, ceramics, anything with an irregular silhouette). Crop if you are shooting flat-lays or a consistent catalogue grid and want the frame filled.
